Wei Wuxian Prompt Fest - Pledge Edition

Dear WWX fans,

it is August 18th and we are live!

Join us in the 2024 Pledge Edition of our yearly WWX Fans Prompt Fest, now running in the third year.

We are coming together as a community of creators who plan to work on Wei Wuxian-centric fanworks in the period up to Wei Wuxian's birthday, and encourage and support one another in our endeavors.

How does it work?

You go to Pledges Thread and announce your Wei Wuxian-centric project that you will be working on in the run-up to his birthday. This can be any media or sort of fanwork, not just fic or art. Podcasts, bookbinding, fannish recipes, the world's your oyster! Any and all ships, dynamics, adaptations welcome.
You can start a new project, pledge to finish a WIP, or to complete the next chapter/the next stage of your project, it's all up to you. Works created for both this abnd other fan events are welcome, too. The only rule is that it has to be about Wei Wuxian.
Posting at any point until October 31st is fine, we just ask you to complete your pledged goal by October 31st, Wei Wuxian's birthday. Once you are done, report your success here!

Why should you commit?

Along with letting you share your initial pledge here, we will put up posts here and on social media where you can share your progress.
We also have the hashtag #wwxbdaypledge so fellow creators can find your social media posts/tweets about your project.
We are hoping for creators to encourage and support one another as they work on their various birthday gifts. We believe that having a specific goal to work towards to and fellow fans to work alongside can help with creativity.
At the end of the event, we are going to create a spreadsheet collecting the links to your works (provided you agreed to be included in the wrap-up.)

what if lxc told wwx 'youre the only mistake my brother's ever made' after sunshot campaign? i was thinking the plot to go along the lines of wwx not getting wtf lxc means so he starts badgering him, sneaking to gusu to find lxc and being a menace trying to get him to spill the beans. lxc keeps refusing and is very scathing in a diplomatic way but then finally, around lxc wwx starts relaxing and feeling like he shouldnt put up a facade because lxc dislikes him for some reason anyway but he's an honourable man who would neither kill him and hasnt tried 'imprisoning' him in gusu the way lwj has been trying to (lmao) and a lot of his antics return to cloud recesses arc wwx-like. he's annoying, pranks, breaks rules, absolutely doesnt respect a fucking sect leader's privacy and boundaries but lxc starts liking it.

wwx pesters and annoys him but he also cares because he mother hens over him when he overworks, makes fun of his sleep schedule, almost kills him with his spicy ood and keeps trying to get him to unwind by breaking rules. its too late when lxc realizes he's so fucked and randomly tells lwj that he now understands why he's been in love with wwx...he's very easy to love.

ultimately heartbroken lwj comes to the conclusion that he would never be able to keep wwx and his sect's reputation safe at the same time and begrudgingly gives lxc his blessing to court wwx. idk what love confession and more domestic fluff later wwx gets proposed and marries lxc and despite still having some feelings for lwj, he ends up falling in love with lxc and finds himself content to be...the more flexible part of the lan clan (lxc and lwj both allow...who tf can stop wwx from running around and pranking the disciples now??)...lxc/wwx hea with a dash of wangxian mututal pining but it becoming nothing...

How will that change everything about canon now that he's more mature, powerful and not confused about why and who he wants (wwx). teacher/student shenanigans (including punishment and lwj realizing he's into watching wwx cry out in pain and beg), underage sex (wwx) and so many more. canon divergent, what if wwx confuses lxc as the second jade of lan? he's forgetful so he doesn't know what their names are supposed to be and because of lwj's unyielding behaviour and punishments, he thinks that's the future sect leader and stirs clear. Which means he directs all his attention and flirting towards lxc and lxc basks in it, developing a twisted obsession with wwx. He wants to own him in every way so he makes his interest known and flustered wwx who was never pursued so relentlessly gives in to him. lxc aggressively courts him (by that I mean does it in front of everyone and various things to stake his claim) with wwx none the wiser and as time passes and he gets to know him more and more, lxc becomes worse, using his influence as sect heir to keep wwx in cloud recesses despite broken rules.

He marries wwx a year later and the sex is loud and pretty much brutal, wwx always comes out covered in bites and bruises looking satisfied and more in love each day. He only figures out lxc is the sect leader and how badly he was manipulated and by then its too late. He's addicted to the painful sex he has and the weight of lxc's obsessed stare and everything. So he says nothing and stays married and lxc is the most devoted husband to ever husband and lets wwx breaks all the rules, wear black and red, cooks him spicy ass food and so on.

is there a war or its a no war AU? up to you but if you go for war, please have it begin after they're married. canon divergent, what if song zichen and xiao xingchen were older than wei wuxian by at least a decade? Instead of being traumatized by the streets, dogs and jiang sect, songxiao raise lil wei wuxian while starting their sect and it changes everything about canon including how wangxian happen (with less idiocy, less dying and waiting for decades). Its up to you whether this is a no war AU or sunshot campaign is a thing, i'd love either way as long as wwx retains his core, family and relationships and it has happy ending for both wangxian and songxiao! I'd love to see his relationship with his mother and xichen explored as he falls in love with wei wuxian in cloud recesses study arc and the different choices he makes because of his strong support system. Definitely feelings realization and better communication with fluff, maternal teasing, wwx feeling more welcomed and happy because madam lan has a personality like his mother used to and she'll do anything to make the boy who makes her son happy feel comfortable and wanted. What if instead of Jiang Fengmian, Meng Shi raised Wei Wuxian instead? I don't have a concrete plot...I have a patchwork of things I'd love for this AU to have!

- Meng Shi or Young Meng Yao finding lil wwx within the first year or his parents death (aka less street trauma than canon)
- Meng Shi informally adopts wwx and so do all the brothel ladies but Meng Shi is his primary caretaker
- Meng Shi is the best mom she can be to wwx just as Meng Yao is the best slightly older bro he could ask for so both siblings grow up loved
- wwx calls Meng Shi "A-Niang" and Meng Yao "Yao-ge" and all other brothel ladies as "JieJie"
- using the popular HC that wwx cultivated a core in the streets, wwx tries his best to teach Meng Yao cultivation so both of them flourish well and have powerful cores.
- wwx is the cultivation prodigy while meng yao is the politics and manipulation prodigy and they take care of each other and their mom, eventually convincing her jgs is NOT coming back so she devotes her time to saving up for them instead of pining
- I'd love to see how canon changes now that Meng Yao and wwx have bare minimum trauma, bad motives and grew up loved and happy together (imagine the tiny babies toddling around holding hands oh god I'll cry so cute!)

- maybe wen qing saves meng shi from fatal illness which is why wwx decides to shelter wen remnants
- if you do sunshot campaign, wwx and meng shi can become an honorary member of Nie Sect due to Meng Yao's position and he will provide them with the most innovative and useful talismans and array designs which will ensure less loss of lives and Nie clan's backing for wen remnants
- this also means they will work to get rid of the qi deviation problem for the clan forever and nmj will live long and spoil them and so will nhs
- no romance for meng yao unless you want to...i have no priorities here. other background ships are up to you
- oops lwj/nmj has to face so many people who are protective over wwx oops?
- I'd like the plot, the sibling-ness and wangxian/mingxian going hand in hand, none of them overshadowing the other/putting the other as background. You don't need to overcomplicate the plot unless inspired because I am mostly looking for a feel good, fluffy, happy ending in all ways type of fic!

Canonverse or any AU. As much as I madly love foxxian, how about a zhenniao wei wuxian AU? Just like he's practically hunted for being a demonic cultivator in canon, why not have him hunted for being a rare zhenniao that's only ever born once in a millennium? Due to his poisonous nature, the clans could just go after him to 'exterminate evil' and get rid of someone who can easily kill them regardless of how strong a creature they are? Maybe you can even make it a true love thing, a zhenniao's poison being useless if he truly loves (both romantically and platonically) someone to the point theyll force their natural biology useless and defenseless? you can decide what supernatural creatures others are.

Canonverse AU. What if Cangse Sanren was the long lost/kicked out sister/half-sister of Wen Ruohan and doesnt get taken by Jiang Fengmian? I would love to see Wei Wuxian find himself and his way to his roots, and after all his struggles to make it as a rogue cultivator, inventor and amazing person as he looks for his remaining family. idk how (so its up to you how), he will become Sect leader Wen in the future and have the best overprotective siblings in Wen Qing and Wen Ning so anyone who tries to court him has it coming. I'd love for the romance to happen before he takes the mantle and for the fic to highlight his struggles against the cultivation world, wen sect's reputation (in case of the AU having sunshot campaign in the fic or in the past, wen ruohan obviously survived for a bit) and trying to concile his morals with the sect's traditions, practices and all.

My pledge: Finishing at least one of my two current fic WIPs. One isn't far from being finished but I've been dithering around and really want to get at least one done. Two would be ideal, but I'm not sure I can get the inspiration for the second one rn as there's still a good chunk missing.

Both are Wangxian from WWX's PoV and also modern AUs.

I guess I don't mind being included in the spreadsheet. I haven't participated in something like this yet. XD

I DESPERATELY need to finish A Desperate Need for the Impossible which is wwx-centric chengxian monster smut. I am like!! TWO maybe just THREE chapters away from done and an Oct31 deadline sounds doable >> sweats profusely.

Wangxian, wwx is a neon-sign maker in a small northern city. LWJ moonlights as an uber driver to relieve stress, becomes wwx's biggest fan without knowing who makes them.

Works with Any Wei Wuxian pairing but I'd prefer for it to be either MingXian, HuanXian or WangXian! I guess SangXian (nhs/wwx) could work too...

canon divergent, a few months after sunshot campaign begins, the alliance recieves news about a man called "Yiling Laozu". They have no information about him save for the fact he's usually seen in yiling, has no clan affiliation, appears to be a cultivator and sells intelligence to the highest bidder (they also assume he's an expert infiltrator because his intelligence is so detailed that he either has moles everywhere or spends time undercover, spoiler, its both). He's also known to have no love for clans and their politics and as such, is dangerous and detrimental for the fate of sunshot campaign.

wwx's future husband (aka whoever you pick to ship with him for this fic) is dispatched to either kill him and end his network of informants or somehow ensure he's loyal to sunshot and will be helpful in ending the war in their favour. What follows is a slow burn journey of meeting a mysterious man named 'wei wuxian' who claims to have been kicked out by baoshan sanren for practicing demonic cultivation as a hobby (its true). wwx claims to know how to find the renowned yiling laozu but it will take long.

The journey is a patchwork of nighthunts, helping the needy and poor (fuck your clan rules, I am helping them so you can either be helpful or fuck off - wwx to his future husband), solving various riddles and decoding talismanic hints left by the information dealer. They grow closer, share a bit about themselves and their family, wwx learns that not all people in clans are bad and the clans arent inherently evil, his husband learns the same of demonic cultivation and from hints about the yiling laozu fellow, discovers that he may not be the villain people make him out to be. Why else would he be protected by prostitutes, street children, beggars and rogue cultivators if he was so evil?

perceptions change, tides of war shift as yiling laozu remains missing and unhelpful to even the rich bitches and wwx falls in love with his future husband just as the other does for him. When proposed out of nowhere, wwx has no choice but to surrender the truth about his identity to test for loyalty or meet his end mercifully. That just prompts his partner more and they soon elope in a small town, spend two weeks in newly wedded bliss, enjoying company, sex and taking small nighthunts free of charge.

Married, they make their way back to aid the war effort after a solemn promise from his husband that they'll protect innocents and not misplace his trust, inventions and talents. The sunshot is won years earlier thanks to wwx's moles and cultivation genius (The winning war part should also be a slow-ish burn please and not just instant win after wwx joins their efforts!) and they live happily ever after with their adopted and biological kids, renowned as ever. Wwx is the most popular war hero and figurehead for kids and so he leads nighthunts comprised of juniors from various clans. All's well that ends well.

DNW's: wwx's future husband to have been in a past serious relationship, still having sex with someone else in the fic, children from other partners (aka wwx is the only real serious commitment), miscarriage and unhappy ending. If you put Jiang Clan in the fic, please ensure they either have bare-minimum interactions with wei wuxian, are operating in the background and have no plot-related things OR outright Jiang clan bashing. I dont want JC/WWX reconciliation, nor do I wanna see Jiang clan positively please.

Post-sunshot, As rebuilding begins in earnest, Lotus Pier requests assistance from clans. GusuLan strikes a marriage alliance deal, wwx and lxc (because they can see what an asset wwx will be). I want the fic to explore huanxian's relationship as they work to rebuild the lan clan as stronger than ever, both in terms of their values and security, get to know each other and fall in love during wei wuxian's first pregnancy (lan sizhui and lan jingyi). I want to see lxc soften every time he sees the proof his children are well and growing or feels them, and grow from casual lust at the sight of a pretty man to madly in love and lust with his hot af husband who's also doing so much for their clan. I want him to realize how rigid the clan is, how set in their beliefs and how they hurt amazing people like wwx and set precedent to fix those issues. And then I want the entire clan to soften, accept wwx and heal as they see the twins grow. And I want lxc and wwx to have a relationship full of love, trust and respect as they raise their two gremlins. lxc will be the best dad ever and he'll let his kids and husband get away with everything as long as its not dangerous to any of them three.

bonus if you add wen remnants living and being moved to cloud recesses and the wen siblings (wen ning didnt die) are massively protective of wwx, wen qing being his primary physician. he cultivates a new and stronger than before core thanks to constant meals, good peaceful environment, no fear of being punished for surpassing anyone, happiness and lots of dual cultivation. Wen qing's guidance helps. maybe show us a snippet or two of the future with wwx leading nighthunts of juniors from various clans and being an amazing father to his kids and someone all the juniors look up to!

Oh and wwx definitely calls him "A-Huan" because I am a sucker for this. What lxc calls him is up to you!

1. The post-canon fic where WWX keeps visiting LXC getting helap with a project, but doesn't ever explain just what the project is. (This is also LXC-centric as it's from his POV, but I hope it counts!)

2. The next stop on the CR-era marriage AU, where WWX gets to take LWJ back to Lotus Pier and keep him.

3. My FTH winning bid, which is wangxian adventure casefic.
